Why the Blog?

Welcome to my blog! Why am I starting this blog? It's January 2nd, so let's see how many New Year's resolutions I can accomplish at once. This is a challenge to me on many fronts.

First, I've never written a blog or didn't even know how to get started until just a few weeks ago. I'm teaching myself as I go.

Second, I absolutely love to cook. However, I find myself ordering takeout for my family more often than firing up the range.

Third, my friends and I always talk about the challenge to get dinner on the table for our families after busy days of carting kids, working and volunteering. We often talk about exchanging recipes to help each other get through the dinner doldrums, but we've never done it.

I hope this blog serves as a learning tool for me; a challenge to cook dinner every night for 30 days without ordering takeout; and a menu planner, grocery list, recipe log/exchange for all my busy friends and family that will also add a little spice to our dinner tables.

As a mom of three, I think back every day to how I was raised with utter amazement. Do you know that my mom cooked -- and I mean cooked -- breakfast for us every morning, packed us a healthy (and gourment) lunch every day for school and made dinner for us nearly every night during the week? How did she do that? I'm starting off small. My challenge is 30 days. She did it over 18 years. This effort is dedicated to my mom. The best mom and cook ever! And to all the other family cooks who have inspired me.
